Adult/Teen Voice Group

My student list is varied:  Beginners, Intermediate, Advanced, Church singers and soloists, Performers from local musical productions, Rock band singers wanting to "save" their voices, etc.  Some come just because they want to do something for themselves, or perhaps it had been a long time goal to learn to sing.  Singing can make you feel Wonderful!

The human voice is a marvelous instrument.  With proper training one can learn to manipulate the voice safely in a variety of ways.  I use a classical approach in teaching voice because that kind of training will enable the singer to sing ANY kind of music - Classical, Opera, Pop, Blues, Folk, or Rock.  Along the way, my students learn how to properly care for their voices so they can sing well for a lifetime if they have the desire.

Teens/Adult Group
60 Minute sessions, weekly (Limited to 6 singers)

Recommended for beginning singers, ex-singers who want to get back into shape, professional singers who want to maintain their abilities, or anyone who wants to sing better and/or learn to protect the voice.  Emphasis is on Voice Building and includes physical exercises, breathing exercises, and vocal exercises.  Diction and phrasing are stressed through studies of Italian exercises and learning art songs and Broadway pieces.  Attention is given to reading music, sight singing, singing accurate intervals, and performance and audition technique, as well as proper care of the vocal instrument.  Through ensemble singing, students learn to read basic notation and will have an opportunity to perform solo parts.  Building a repertoire is not stressed because of time limitations.  For beginners, the fear of singing in front of others disappears when hearing others perform the same exercises.  Each voice is recorded every 6 to 12 months to monitor progress.  A "Theory for Singers" session will be offered  at no charge to voice students at least twice a year.

Young Singers Group (Ages 8 to 12)
60 Minute sessions, weekly  (Limited to 6 Singers)

Children will learn how singers produce sound through understanding proper breathing, placement of tone, and are given light exercises for vocal agility.  Diction and language are stressed along with performance techniques.  It is important for the young singer to learn to protect and care for the voice.  They will learn to read music, use rhythm band instruments, and to sing two part harmony.  Ensemble singing as well as solo singing will be accomplished through learning a variety of songs.  Each voice is recorded every 6 yo 12 months to monitor progress.  Students in this group may participate free of charge in the "Theory for Singers" sessions which will be offered at least twice a year.

Seniors Group - Age 50+
60 Minute sessions, weekly

Our sessions begin with light physical exercises with some Yoga stretching as proper breathing exercises are introduced.  After these warm-ups, we begin vocalizing exercies, diction and language exercises, and body movement.  The latter part of the session is spent using the skills learned by ensemble singing the songs of their chosen eras and sometimes with use of Karaoke.  this group is designed for Seniors to improve their singing abilities and have a great time in the process.

Private Voice Lessons  (Ages 13 to Adult)
45 Minute sessions

Students are accepted by audition or after mastering the vocal technique through a Voice Group listed above.  Private voice lessons are directed toward individual needs.  Physical exercises, breathing exercises, reading notation, and vocal exercises are stressed.  Diction and languages are presented with emphasis on learning appropriate repertoire of acient Italian, German Leider, French Melodie, English Art Songs, Oratorio, Opera, American Musicals, and many genres of pupular music.  The voice is recorded every 6 to 12 months to monitor progress.  Private Voice students may participate free of charge, in the "Theory for Singers" sessions offered at least twice a year.

NOTE:
All of my students are invited to an Evening of Karaoke at times during the year as are Performance Sessions where students perform for each other.  There is no charge and participation is voluntary.
